Shíofra graduated with a First Class Honours in Physiotherapy from University College Dublin. Since graduating Shíofra has worked in the Sports Surgery Clinic in Santry and with the HSE.
Upon graduating Shíofra worked as a research Physiotherapist in UCD assessing patients for Orthopaedic clinical trials. Shíofra furthered her interest in sports and musculoskeletal related injuries during her time at Sports Surgery Clinic Santry, where she gained invaluable experience in assessing and rehabilitating a variety of injuries pre and post surgery. She has since worked with the HSE in an outpatient clinical setting, treating both acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries.
Shíofra has ensured that she is continuously learning and developing, engaging in regular professional development, with qualifications in Dry Needling and Strength and Conditioning from NCSC. Most recently she has completed training to become an APPI trained Pilates instructor. She believes in adopting a holistic approach to treating patients looking at the variable factors that can lead to injury and addressing these issues with clinical approaches that she has learned from engaging in professional development.
Evidence based practice underpins her approach to rehabilitation having published research papers in the British Journal of Sports Medicine and JMIR Rehabilitative and Assistive Technologies.
Shíofra is passionate about promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle and enjoys GAA, Pilates and running. She has worked with Hurling and Camogie teams at both senior and underage levels for the past three seasons in Offaly and Tipperary. Having experienced Camogie injuries in the past, she understands the role of rehabilitation in injury recovery and the importance of pain free movement for physical and mental well being.
