Why CLInical Pilates?

This is a question that is often asked. The main difference between clinical pilates and general pilates is the extent of training the instructor has undertaken.
The major difference is in the extent of knowledge in anatomy and underlying pathologies of the body. Chartered physiotherapists undertake assessments on a wide range of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions, which allows them to adjust, modify and choose the most accurate Pilates exercises for an individual. This is especially important when dealing with pathology of the spine and also in terms of the specific needs of both the pregnant and post natal mother. It allows us to accurately and specifically adapt exercises if an injury is present or flares up.

A trained physiotherapist is whom prescribes and supervises a Clinical Pilates class, whereas an instructor for Regular Pilates only recommends a generalised program of exercises to individuals.

Both types of Pilates are based on the original theories and practices of Joseph Pilates and are exceptional ways to improve strength, flexibility and control.

Why a Chartered Physiotherapist?

Chartered physiotherapists assess and rehabilitate musculoskeletal conditions of the the body every day. They are trained to identify and treat pathologies of the spine, often prescribing therapeutic exercise for a wide range of pain and movement dysfunction. This allows for a more individualised approach to pilates than more “general” pilates based exercise groups.  At SPARC, we believe this allows our instructors to prescribe pilates within class, utilising the most up to date evidence ensuring your experience is a positive and beneficial one. We strongly advise those attending clinical pilates for underlying back or neck pain to undergo our pre pilates assessment to ensure that you are suitable to attend the classes offered.

What class is for me?

Our classes range from beginners classes through to more advanced classes. The beginners class is an introductory class for those who may not be used to exercising or not feel confident exercising due to pain, a current injury or for other reasons.

Our advanced classes are aimed at those looking to challenge their own movement and neuromuscular control. This class is more suitable for those with pilates experience and those who are looking to utilise pilates to enhance their own performance in a variety of sports.
